Most people feel that success in a game is based off of their own personal skill: Take RPGs for example. Most of what happened between Level 1 and the end of the game was a massive increase in Avatar Skill: How good your character is. Your skill, your Player Skill, did improve over the course of the game, but not as much as your Avatar did. You had to be level 60 to join our guild. You had to have a Gear Level of 95 or better or whatever it was. That was all well and good, and the statistics were important to the game, but being a competent player was also important. There was a big difference between a good player with good gear and a mediocre player with great gear. With some of the add-ons my guild used to run with, you could find out exactly how much damage had been done to enemies in a fight.

Ronteque Ronteque 5 years ago 1 I have tried the trial version of SC2. But honestly, I don’t think it is a good gauge as it is very limited in what I can do in the trial version. Honestly the only thing putting me off right now is the seemingly high level of APM required in competitive gameplay whether ranked or unranked. From those videos I watch on youtube, those players click and mash the keyboard at a seemingly high speed with the screen flickering between units, bases, etc.

I just don’t find it fun if the only way to be good at this game is to be as fast as possible.

Dec 27,  · I had the same problem on SC2 but at least here you have unranked matchmaking. I mean, I couldn’t force myself to hit the find match button and hop on the SC2 ladder. Just play unranked till you have a game that you did well and won then jump immediately into ranked.

There are always smartasses who will tell you “normal games use diffrent MMR” but that doesn’t really solve the problems does it? It just proves that the normal games MMR is worthless or at least it doesn’t fullfill the players expectations.

I don’t think that the normal games MMR, the way it is designed, is even able to give you ballanced matches. Skilled players are simply not recognized for the most part, the same is true for beginners who end up in the same match.

Heart of the Swarm: Multiplayer Posted on by Tyler F. Edwards In part two of my review of Starcraft II: Obviously, the most interesting change to multiplayer is the new units added to all races. Initially, I was rather critical of the new units, but I feel a bit better about them now. I still think the tempest is pretty boring, though I will admit it has its uses, and I do agree that Terrans kind of got the short end of the stick. Widow mines are cool, but hellbats are just a really weird and confusing firebat rehash.

I still think the new Zerg units are cool, though — vipers are absolutely hilarious to watch in action. Probably the most interesting addition is the mothership core. A slight downside is that the mothership core is actually a lot better than a full mothership, meaning the upgrade is only going to be useful for identifying noobs or trolling your opponents. Oracles are also quite a welcome addition.

After countless revisions, they ended up being a very scary harassment unit capable of annihilating entire mineral lines in moments. Protoss have never really had any good options for harassment before now, so this is a big deal. At least I can enjoy it as a spectator.

Hello everyone, long time no see. I’m back to 40k after a five month StarCraft 2 binge. The following battle reports are from a local mini-tournament. It was my first time playing with the new vanilla codex. The idea was to form a gunline and overwhelm opponents with threat saturation and cheap effective units. I considered taking a master of the forge, but decided to give the new librarian the benefit of the doubt.

Flak missiles are overpriced, but seeing as I don’t have any flier models they’re my current go-to skyfire option. Sadly, godhammer land raider transport capacity was lowered in the 6th edition vanilla codex, so it can no longer carry five terminators plus an HQ for some reason, its price remained the same , which effectively invalidates my old playstyle fuck you Cruddace.

I’d have preferred if they released a game with the core actually functional? Even things like the ability to change your crosshair was missing for fuck sake. Physics and netcode tied to framerate, laggy interpolation, lack of direction. There are many “core” things that are wrong with the game. Yes, innovation is good and trying new things isn’t inherently bad, but “abilities”, the new duel format, lack of other team gamemodes is bad.

Making something “new” just to appeal to the masses and promoting a shit game just to keep “Quake” in the big titles is just pointless imo. If this is the direction the game has taken, I’d rather them not continue the franchise. It’s like when producers tarnish a great film with a shit sequel. And where are the things the community have been consistently asking for and implementing for years?
